Time after time, I have noticed that the students who have the easiest time learing Italian, and thus speaking it with the greatest degree of fluency - and as a result getting the most out of their experience in Italy - are from Holland and Belgium. Why? Because TV in their country isn't dubbed: shows are broadcast in original language with subtitles. This at the very least helps children develop an ear for other languages from a very young age, and so it's easier for them to pick up other languages later on. <BR/><BR/>A bit of history: when foreign language films first became available many years ago, dubbing was the only option, because the high rate of illiteracy prevented the audience from following the dialogue via subtitles.
