Scenes from Matera - City of Stone

We drove all the way down to the Basilicata region this weekend. On the way, we were thinking of making a pitstop for lunch at KC's place in the region of Campania but it would have been short notice and I don't have her exact address. Next time, KC (unless you are in labour)!

We ended up in the city of Matera. People haven't stopped living here since the paleolithic age. Absolutely everything is stone and our hotel room was in a cave. The Bambina found all the stairs rather daunting and I was very glad that we decided not to bring the stroller. (Note to self: tell the Bambina this week that there will be no more stroller once she turns three years old).

We left Sunday morning and headed to the Amalfi coast for lunch and a swim at the beach. And then back to Rome. Does life get any better?

Great photos! I've always wanted to go to Matera but we've never had the time. Let me know next time you pass through Campania, and if it's not the moment that Peanut decides to make his grand entry, we could arrange something.
